 England vs Ireland

T20 World Cup Super 12 Group 1 Prediction & Tips

Time: 26 Oct, 09:30 AM (IST)
Series: T20 World Cup Super 12 Group 1
Venue: Melbourne Cricket Ground - Melbourne

Info:
  • Jos Buttler hit three fours in his 18-ball innings against Afghanistan and the England opener is our tip for their highest run scorer against Ireland. With the ball, Sam Curran has taken 16 wickets from his last seven IT20s and he is well worth backing as England’s top wicket taker in this match.
  • Paul Stirling has hit 100 runs over the last two games and the small and stock right-handed opener is our recommendation for Ireland’s highest run scorer in this fixture. Gareth Delany has taken four wickets from the last two matches and the spinner is our pick for Ireland’s top wicket taker against England.
  • The pace of Mark Wood is likely to trouble many of Ireland’s batters. We are backing him to take over 1.5 wickets.

Weather & Pitch Report:
⛅ Weather:
Cloudy conditions are forecast throughout this game with a high chance of light rain falling during the match. The temperature will be no lower than 19 degrees.

🏟️ Pitch:
A par score on this wicket will be no higher than 165. We expect to see the pace bowlers on both sides enjoying bowling on this surface.

Toss Prediction:
The last six IT20 games at the MCG have seen the team batting second win the match. We predict that both captains will choose to field first if they win the toss.

TEAM NEWS:
ENG Team News:

With Chris Woakes passing a late fitness test and him offering useful batting down the order, England were able to include an additional batter in their side against Afghanistan. Although not a perfect display, England were impressive and we expect to see the same team for this match.

IRE Team News:
Once again, Ireland were unchanged ahead of Sunday’s match against Sri Lanka and we expect them to put out the same XI in this match. Strike-bowler Josh Little and spinner Simi Singh were both expensive in the last game but we do not anticipate they will be dropped for this clash.

Team Updates:
ENG Team Updates
  • England have been on song lately, they defeated Afghanistan in their first fixture with some great bowling display on a pacy Perth wicket.
  • Prior to the world cup as well, they looked in fine touch as the defeated Australia in Australia and bagged the three match series 2-0 in their favour.
  • Jos Buttler and Alex Hales will probably open the inning.
  • Dawid Malan will bat at the one-down position.
  • Ben Stokes and Harry Brook will handle the middle-order batting.
  • Jos Buttler will lead the England as a Captain. He is also a good Wicket-Keeper
  • Jos Buttler will do the Wicket Keeping for England.
  • Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid will take care of the spin bowling of his team.
  • Mark Wood and Chris Woakes will lead the pace attack of his team.

IRE Team Updates
  • Ireland, on the other hand, had a brilliant group stage where they beat a quality side like the West Indies and qualified for the Super 12.
  • However, the Irish men did not have a good outing in their first encounter against Sri lanka as they suffered a huge nine wicket defeat impacting their net run rate.
  • Andy Balbirnie and Paul Stirling will probably open the inning.
  • Lorcan Tucker will bat at the one-down position.
  • Harry Tector and Curtis Campher will handle the middle-order batting.
  • Harry Tector is a tactically sound batter, he can be a trump card pick in this match.
  • Andy Balbirnie will lead the Ireland as a Captain. He is also a good Batsman
  • Lorcan Tucker will do the Wicket Keeping for Ireland.
  • Gareth Delany and Simi Singh will take care of the spin bowling of his team.
  • Mark Adair and Joshua Little will lead the pace attack of his team.

Winning Chances:
Whenever England take on Ireland in a cricket game, there is always plenty of interest with any neutrals firmly supporting Ireland. The underdogs beat England in an ODI World Cup fixture in 2011 in India but their batting line-up is not as strong nowadays. We are predicting an entertaining game with England getting the win.

England are favorites to beat Ireland at the odds.

ENG Key Players:
Jos Buttler
the keeper-batter has made scores of 68, 17, 65 not out and 18 since arriving in Australia earlier this month. He has a strike rate of 143.75 in this format.

Liam Livingstone
England’s middle-order ‘finisher’ returned to the team in the game against Afghanistan after time out with an injury. He top-scored with 29 not out from 21 balls.

Sam Curran
the small left-arm medium-fast bowler has been in excellent form over the last couple of months. He has picked up at least one wicket in each of his last seven IT20s.

~

IRE Key Players:
Paul Stirling
the opener is certainly back to his attacking best at the top of the order for Ireland. He hit four fours and one six in his 25 ball innings against Sri Lanka.

Curtis Campher
the all-rounder has scored over 100 runs in T20 World Cup 2022 so far and is a consistent bowler. It does not happen in every game but he is a match-winner with bat and ball when he gets everything right.

Gareth Delany
the 25-year-old leg-spinner has taken 33 wickets across his IT20 career. He got the only wicket, Dhananjaya de Silva, in Sunday’s defeat.

Team Forms:
ENG Team Form:
England have not lost any of their last six IT20s and have won five of those games.

IRE Team Form:
Although Ireland were well beaten by Sri Lanka on Sunday, they have won three of their last five.

Toss: England elected to Bowl First

Pitch Report:
It's a fresh pitch, there are shorter boundaries on the off side for a right-handed batsman. There is some nice green covering on the pitch, looks really nice for fast bowlers. There's a bit of moisture so there will be some tennis ball bounce. The captains winning the toss would want to chase, cause stats show that fielding first has been the way to go at MCG, says Shane Watson.
