Team News:
SL-W Team News:Sri Lanka Women will take on India Women in the first of three WODIs. The game will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy starting at 10:00 local time on Friday 1st July.
This will be Sri Lanka Women’s first game in this format since losing a three game series to Pakistan Women 2-1 in Karachi earlier this month. Although they were beaten in the series, they won the final match by an impressive 93 runs. Skipper Chamari Atapathuthu hit 101 runs from 85 balls at the top of the order and was well backed up by Harshitha Madavi in the middle order who contributed 75 runs. With the ball, Sri Lanka’s attack was led by Oshadi Ranasinghe and Chamari Atapathuthu who both took two wickets. Sugandika Kumari, Inoka Ranaweera and Kavisha Dilhari all chipped in with a dismissal each.
IND-W Team News:
India Women return to the WODI format for the first time since a very disappointing Women’s World Cup in New Zealand earlier this year. Although conditions were not ideal for the Indian side, they came into the tournament with genuine aspirations of reaching the final but were eliminated in the group stage, finishing fifth in the table with the top four going forward to the semi-finals. Smriti Mandhana top scored for India Women with a century and two fifties but overall the batters struggled in New Zealand. With the ball, medium pacer Pooja Vastrakar took 10 wickets but finished in ninth place on the tournament wicket takers list.
